Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

This policy explains how KatchTV.com ("we", "us") handles information on our website, apps and emails (the "Service"). It's part of our Terms of Use. Questions? Email hello@katchtv.com.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Clip submissions ("Katch it"). The video link, plus anything optional you add: a name or @handle, where it was filmed and a one-line note. If you add a name or handle, it may be shown on screen as credit.
• Katch of the Day. Your email address, if you subscribe.
• Messages. Whatever you include when you email us.

Information collected automatically

• IP address with submissions. We store the IP address that sent a submission, only to prevent spam and abuse (for example, limiting how many clips one source can submit per day).
• Anonymous voting ID. When you "Katch!" a clip, your browser creates a random ID, kept in your browser's local storage, so each browser gets one vote per clip per day. It doesn't contain your name or email.
• Technical and security data. Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request data (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) to deliver the site, protect it from attacks and give us basic traffic statistics.

We don't ask you to create an account, and we don't collect payment information.

3. How we use it

• to run the Service: build channel schedules, check and air submitted clips, credit people and count votes;
• to send Katch of the Day to subscribers;
• to prevent spam, fraud and abuse, and keep the Service secure;
• to understand overall usage and improve the Service;
• to respond to you, and to meet legal obligations.

4. YouTube API Services and embedded players

KatchTV.com uses YouTube API Services to find and display public YouTube videos. Our use of YouTube content is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

We don't ask you to sign in with Google or YouTube, and we don't access any YouTube account data. The YouTube data we store is public video information, such as titles, channel names, durations and thumbnails, which we refresh or delete at least every 30 days.

Videos also play through official players from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram (Meta), X and Vimeo, and public-domain films stream from NASA and the Internet Archive. When a video loads, your browser connects directly to that provider, which may collect information (such as your IP address and viewing activity), set cookies or similar technologies, and show its own ads under its own policies. We don't control those practices. See Google, TikTok, Instagram, X and Vimeo.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

KatchTV.com itself doesn't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We use your browser's local storage only for the anonymous voting ID described above. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies. Third-party players may set their own cookies, as described in Section 4. You can clear local storage and cookies, or block third-party cookies, in your browser settings, though some videos may then not play.

6. How we share information

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only:

• with service providers that run the Service for us, such as Cloudflare (hosting, database, security and email routing), GitHub (code and schedule publishing) and the email service we use to send Katch of the Day, under obligations to protect it;
• publicly, when you choose to show a name or @handle with a submitted clip;
• when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users, the public or KatchTV.com;
• as part of a merger, acquisition or transfer of the Service, subject to this policy.

7. How long we keep it

• Submissions: while the clip is in our library, and for up to 12 months after it's removed or declined (for abuse prevention).
• Submission IP addresses: no longer than needed for abuse prevention, at most 12 months.
• Subscriber emails: until you unsubscribe, then deleted or kept only on a suppression list so we don't email you again.
• Vote records: kept in aggregate. The random voting ID stays in your browser until you clear it.

8. Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time. You can also ask us to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, including a submission or credit you no longer want shown, by emailing hello@katchtv.com. We'll handle deletion requests within 7 days, and respond to other requests within the time the law requires. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.

California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA to know, delete and correct personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it. EEA/UK residents may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to processing and port data, and to complain to a data-protection authority. We rely on legitimate interests (running and securing the Service), consent (emails) and legal obligations as our legal bases.

Deleting information from KatchTV.com doesn't delete anything from YouTube or other platforms. Manage that data directly with each platform.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Security and international transfers

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), to protect information, but no system is perfectly secure. We're based in the United States, and our providers may process information in other countries, with appropriate protections where required.

11. Changes and contact

We'll update this policy as the Service changes, and revise the date above. If we make material changes, we'll give notice on the Service. Privacy questions or complaints: hello@katchtv.com.
